Connecting internal financials to open data.
Developed in cooperation with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Zimmerman assisted IOM in connecting project data from their internal financial systems to become IATI compliant. We provided IOM with a custom data portal to interface all project data for internal and external use.
A key driver for this was the UN Migration Agency joining the IATI initiative. The core objective was to drastically increase the transparency and accessibility of IOM spending data via an interactive open data portal.
Automating the data transformation.

Automated Compliance Pipeline
Zimmerman created a data mapping solution that automatically ingested project data from internal systems. This triggers a transformation to the IATI Registry, ensuring compliance without manual entry.
Interactive Exploration
The mapped data then triggers an update directly onto the interactive data portal. Users can explore spending broken down by policy priority areas, sectors, locations, and Sustainable Goals (SDGs).
Permissions, Security, and Open Source development.
All mapped datasets can be assigned access permissions: public, team-based, or private. For organisations who collect their own data, the possibility to restrict access rights is essential for protection of confidentiality and personal information.
Powered by the Zimmerman IATI Datastore cloud and its associated APIs, the system reliably displays the most up-to-date information.
All software produced by Zimmerman is openly licensed and can be found on Github for anyone to use. The IOM Front-end data portal is licensed under the AGPL Version 3 license.
